This is where I will be listing information about all of my quilt retreats. Each retreat will have it’s own section, and projects may differ between retreats – so look at the bold header in each section and make sure you are looking at the right set of information!

Fall 2012 Quilt Retreats
This fall I will be hosting six quilt retreats. Two in Ashland, NE, one in Inwood, IA and one in Indianola, IA will feature a Hoffman Batik Star Quilt. I will also be teaching a Beginner’s T-Shirt Quilt Class in Inwood, IA and an Into the Forest retreat in Carrolton, KY. To find out more on these classes, see below.
BATIK STAR QUILT
Come learn this unique method of making 8-point lone stars without using a single template or “Y” seam. This is a great way to make diamond blocks for those who don’t enjoy the time-consuming methods like “Y” seams. This quilt will be made with 2.5″ strips. Don’t let those stars intimidate you anymore! Instead of four stars, as show in the picture, we will enlarge this pattern to make six stars using a combination of rich green, brown, gold, purple and blue Hoffman Batiks.
BEGINNER T-SHIRT QUILT
T-shirt quilts have become one of the most popular quilts to make. You save all those t-shirts because they have memories attached or their sayings/pictures are fun but what do you do with all of them? Why not make a quilt to enjoy and stay warm! In class we will map out your quilt, learn how to place all your tshirts and make extra blocks for fillers if you don’t have enough. You will learn about ‘sashing’ your shirts as well as the proper way to add your borders and binding. T-shirt quilts are as much fun to make as they are to give.
Participants will learn to work with t-shirt squares that are all the same size as well as multi sizes. This technique can also be used with dress shirts, etc. Bring 20 to 30 t-shirts. Find a fabric to use between the shirts and for the borders. You will need about 3 yards of cotton fabric. Don’t make the fabric too wild – you want to feature the t-shirts. In class you will learn about the interfacing you will iron on to the back of the shirts to stabilize them called French Fuse. Sheila will have French Fuse available for you to purchase if you do not find it. You will also need an acrylic ruler square at least 15″. This will also be available for purchase at the class.
INTO THE FOREST QUILT
This year’s quilt will feature the pattern, “Into the Forest” from the book Welcome to My Cabin by Nancy Smith and Lynda Milligan. Your quilt will be made from Batiks in beautiful greens, yellows, blues and more.
